freedom to marry week

freedom to marry
When it comes to my opinions on gowns, flowers, and lighting, I don't hesitate to share, I love to share! When it comes to my other leanings... well, I have always been told not to talk about sex, religion, or politics with strangers (or some of my relatives). This philosophy has served me well and kept me out of trouble for the most part. So even though I know that there are strangers reading this and maybe even some relatives, I'm going to go out on a limb and share a particular leaning that I feel very strongly about.
This week is Freedom to Marry Week! Freedom to Marry is a foundation working to win marriage equality for everyone in the U.S. of A. I support their goals with my whole heart because I believe that equal rights (not different rights) for everyone is the way it should be. I'm hoping that of all people, you, (the high-on-love, engaged to be married, goo-goo eyed love-birds) will be most sympathetic to the cause. Learn more about the cause here. Donate here.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I was not aware that such a week existed and I whole-heartedly agree with equal rights and this topic. I'm proud of you for taking a risk to promote something you believe in as well as helping to spread the word on a topic that really does affect so many Americans. I'll definitely be passing this information along as well.

Thanks for helping to raise awareness Mackenzie, and being brave enough to share your opinion on a controversial topic. http://www.hrc.org is another worthy organization that is pushing for equal rights for marriage and beyond.

Good job! Way to put yourself out there for your beliefs. I know it's not always easy. Thanks for sharing!

Yay! My partner and I are getting married in September- but we are doing down here in DC where even though we are having a wedding, we will not be legally married. B/c even if we went up to MA and got hitched, none of the rights would transfer down here. It's been funny going to bridal shops and wedding related business and telling them were getting married, everyone has been so wonderful! Yay for this week.

Kudos to you! Weddings are wonderful and should be legally available to all loving adults. Commitment ceremonies are nice, but it's even better when the union is legally sanctioned. (Face it, there are a whole lot of benefits that go along with being legally married) So good to hear that New York is now recognizing same-sex Canadian weddings. So, if you're a New Yorker and you get married in Canada, at least you'll be recognized by your home state.

Weddings are something that each couple should share in and decide about, not anyone else :-) www.thegroomstruth.com

I actually am a little upset that you posted about this. We all have our different beliefs about marriage. If men were meant to marry men then they would able to have children together. It is wrong. Marriage should be between a man and a woman. Homosexuality is sick and a sin. I don't normally post my views about this but...we are all entitled to our opinion right?

Thank you so much for posting this. Love happens in many forms and is the most beautiful and pure thing in the world. Who is righteous enough to deny anyone of love?

Luckily, I am a proud Canadian, so I don't have to worry about this type of oppression anymore. I always said that I wouldn't get married until everyone I knew was free to get married to whomever they pleased as well. I hope that everyone in America can share the same freedom soon!

Yay! This post was enough to make me stop lurking and praise your decision to thoughtfully convey your beliefs. I can tell from reading your blog that you are a confident, articulate, and savvy business woman and, I am now also really impressed by your willingness to address an issue that you feel strongly about. While everyone may not agree with your stance (although I am personally in complete agreement with you!) I think you've brought up this issue in a very classy and well thought out way. Thank you!

thank you for this! it is much appreciated.

and anonymous above- do you then believe that all those who are unable to have children together (regardless of their sexuality) should be denied the right to marry?

Thank you so much for posting this. I had to move to another country in order to be with my partner of 13+ years. We had a civil partnership service with more than 40 guests including great aunts, god children and in-laws (on one side of the family).

It was so life affirming to be recognized for our relationship. It was important to feel someplace in the world did not undermine our rights as human beings and as tax paying members of society to not have our fundamental rights stripped away due to bigotry.

I am so thrilled to see this posted in your blog. Three Cheers to diversity. Three Cheers to you.

Hurray! I love that you posted this!! I couldn't agree more. It makes me so sad to see two of my closest friends, who are deeply in love with each other, excluded from all the rights that go along with a legal marriage.

good for you for promoting equal rights!
